FAQ Dopper take-back program

Do you have questions about our take-back program? Here are the most frequently asked questions:

What does ‘End of Life’ mean for a Dopper bottle?
‘End of Life’ refers to the point when your Dopper bottle can no longer be used for its original purpose due to wear, damage, or other reasons.

My Dopper bottle is broken. Can I return it through the take-back program?
Yes, broken bottles can be returned through our take-back program. However, if the damage is covered by warranty, please use the chat feature on the bottom of our website to claim your warranty. Alternatively, consider repairing your Dopper by ordering spare parts directly from here.

My bottle is not broken, but I do not use it anymore. Can I return it through the take-back program?
If your bottle is still usable, consider passing it on to someone else or selling it through a second-hand marketplace marktplaats.nl or secondhand.net. If you prefer to ensure it is recycled properly, you can return it via our take-back program. You can now drop off your used Dopper bottle at any Bever store in the Netherlands, here you find the Bever store locator to find your nearest store. For other locations, find recycling options here

How does Dopper partner with Bever for the take-back program?
In 2024, we partnered with Bever to launch the Dopper take-back program in The Netherlands. Bever stores have designated recycling bins where consumers can drop off their old or unused Dopper bottles. Bever takes care of collecting and transporting the bottles to their recycling street. The materials are then sent to Dopper's facilities, where they are sorted for high-quality recycling and testing.

What actually happens to my old bottle?
Once collected, your old Dopper bottle is separated by material, such as polypropylene (PP), stainless steel (RVS), and glass, and sent to our recycling partners.

Currently, a research program is running to test if the materials can be reused into making new bottles. Other materials are sent to specialist recyclers to ensure each component is handled responsibly.

Currently, we're partnering with MELTUP in Haarlem, where used bottles are transformed into practical items like carabiners, reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy. By recycling your Dopper, you are helping reduce plastic waste and ensuring that high-quality raw materials are given a second life. This supports our broader vision of sustainability and a circular economy, where nothing goes to waste, and everything gets reused.

Will new Dopper bottles be made from my old bottle?
Currently, we are actively exploring ways to use upcycled materials for future bottles. EU legislation is quite strict on recycling for food contact purposes. This means we still have a long way to go with testing. For now, we focus on high-quality recycling to repurpose materials into other useful products. Stay tuned for developments!

Does it cost anything to return my bottle?
No, returning your bottle through the take-back program is free. Just drop it off at any participating Bever store in the Netherlands. While recycling typically incurs costs for transportation, sorting, and processing, these expenses are currently covered by Bever and Dopper. This allows you to recycle your bottle at no additional cost, helping us ensure that materials are reused responsibly and supporting a circular economy.

Do I get money for my old bottle?
No compensation is provided for returned bottles. However, by bringing back your bottle(s) you do contribute to sustainability and earn karma points knowing your bottle is recycled responsibly.

Can I also hand in parts of the bottle?
Yes, you can return individual parts, such as the cap, cup, or body, through the take-back program.

Can I also return my printed Dopper?
Absolutely, we accept both printed and unprinted bottles.

Can I return a Dopper bottle that has been customized with stickers, engravings, or other decorations?

Yes, you can return all bottles. Engraved bottles are no problem. Stickered bottles are a contamination of the waste stream, so these will be filtered out by Dopper. There you can still return your Dopper bottle even if it has been customized with stickers, engravings, or other decorations. We will ensure that the core materials are recycled appropriately.

I do not live in the Netherlands. How can I return my old bottle?
Currently, the take-back program only operates in the Netherlands through Bever stores. For international customers, please check local recycling programs or find more information here

Can I track what happens to my returned bottle?

We do not offer a tracking system for individual bottles. However, we provide updates on our take-back and recycling efforts in our newsletter and through our sustainability reports. Sign up here to stay informed!

Can't I just put my bottle in the plastic waste?
While you can dispose of your bottle in plastic waste, our take-back program ensures that every part of your bottle is recycled efficiently and with high quality. We also ensure that the composition of materials is well understood for better recycling outcomes.

Why is Dopper doing this?
Our take-back program is part of Dopper’s commitment to the Cradle to Cradle philosophy and a circular economy. By designing products with their entire lifecycle in mind, we aim to ensure that all materials can be reused and nothing goes to waste.

What is the environmental impact of participating in the take-back program?
By returning your old Dopper, you are directly contributing to reducing plastic waste and promoting circularity. Each returned bottle helps us repurpose materials, which reduces the demand for virgin resources, lowers energy consumption, and decreases CO₂ emissions. Incinerating a Dopper Original bottle will result in roughly 0,3 kg CO₂. By recycling this material into a new product, these emissions will be avoided.

What does "closing the loop" mean for Dopper?
The take-back program is part of our circular economy initiative, which ensures that the materials from old Dopper bottles are given a second life. By recycling these materials into new products, we are reducing waste and moving closer to our goal of closing the loop, eventually creating new bottles from old ones.

Can I return multiple Dopper bottles at once?
Yes, you can return more than one bottle at a time through the take-back program. Feel free to drop off as many as you need to recycle, all at once.

Is this take-back program open to bulk returns?

Yes, if you have a large quantity of Dopper bottles you like to hand in for recycling. Please contact our customer service team for bulk return options or for handling large quantities.

Can our organization / sports club / gym participate in the Dopper take-back program to hand in end-of-life bottles?

Yes, if your organization has Dopper bottles that have reached the end of their life, you can participate in the take-back program. We encourage bulk returns from companies, schools, or other organizations looking to sustainably dispose of used bottles. Please contact our customer service team for specific instructions on how to return larger quantities of bottles and help contribute to a circular economy.

What happens if I return my bottle but it’s still in good condition?
If your bottle is still in good condition, we may repurpose it for other uses or break it down for recycling, depending on its material composition. We encourage those with functional bottles to consider selling or donating before returning them for recycling.

Can I also return other brands of bottles?
Currently, the program only accepts Dopper bottles to ensure the highest quality recycling. Reason therefore is that we exactly know from which materials our bottles consists, which enable us to maintain the value of the materials in the recycling process. We may consider expanding this in the future, but for now, please return non-Dopper bottles through other recycling channels.

Does the bottle have to be clean to return?
No, but it’s appreciated! While it's not mandatory, rinsing and drying the bottle before returning it helps make the recycling process smoother for all involved.
