Water tap points on Google Maps

To make refilling easier, we’ve added public water tap points to Google Maps. This helps you quickly find a place to refill your Dopper bottle while you’re on the go.

You can read more about how this works here: link. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions.

Why did you only add water taps in the Netherlands?

Adding a large number of water taps to Google Maps hadn’t been done before. Together with our partner Localyse, we started in the Netherlands to learn how the process works.

We use these learnings to expand to other countries. Our ambition is to add public water taps in Belgium, Germany, France and Spain.

The water tap isn’t where Google Maps says it is

Please help us by suggesting a change directly in Google Maps:

  • In English: click “Suggest an edit”

Add the correct information so we can update the location. Thanks for helping others refill too.

The water tap is broken or not working

We’re sorry about that.

You can help in two ways:

  1. Call the phone number on the Google Maps pin
This usually connects you to the responsible water company. They can fix the tap as soon as possible.

  2. Suggest a change on Google Maps
Mark the tap as temporarily closed. This prevents others from searching for a tap that doesn’t work.

Who is responsible for the quality of tap water?

In the Netherlands, drinking water quality is high and strictly controlled. Water companies continuously test tap water.

Quality requirements are set in the Dutch Drinking Water Decree, based on the European Drinking Water Directive. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management monitors compliance. The quality of drinking water is good throughout the Netherlands. The Dutch tap water is continuously and strictly checked by the drinking water companies.

Can I leave a review?

Yes, and please do. Reviews help water tap locations become more visible on Google Maps.

  • We recommend 5 stars if the tap works well

  • Please write your own review (no copy-paste)

If a tap is broken, don’t leave a 1-star review. Reviews stay visible for a long time. Instead, call the phone number listed on Google Maps.

Can I upload pictures?

Yes. Photos help others recognise the location more easily.

Feel free to be creative, and if you share it on Instagram, tag @dopper_official.

How can I add a missing water tap?

Found a water tap that isn’t on the map yet? Please fill in this form:
https://dopper-bottles.typeform.com/to/nCMxq0Pb

We’ll add the tap as soon as possible. Please note: updating locations on Google Maps is a paid service, so updates may take some time.

What type of water taps can I add?

Any public or semi-public water tap can be added. You can find an overview of common water tap types here: link

I don't want my water tap on Google Maps, what can I do?

If you’re the owner of a water tap and don’t want it listed, please email watertap@dopper.com with a link to the Google Maps pin. We’ll review the request.

How did Dopper receive the data of the water taps?

We collect data from multiple sources:

  • Water companies and water tap suppliers

  • Water tap finder websites from water companies

  • OpenStreetMap and drinkwaterkaart.nl
